How to care for your colony in the winter

winter cats

Cats with proper shelter are fine to live outside in the winter.

Cats benefit from additional wet food for extra calories and hydration in the colder months

Cats need access to water, always. In the winter a caretaker may need to break the ice in water dishes or fill them multiple times a day.

What to do if you find kittens

If you find a kitten or a litter of kittens, the best thing to do is reach out to YVAS and we will help decide what the best next steps are for them.   Depending on the age and temperament of the kitten(s) YVAS will be able to determine if the kitten(s) needs to go to a foster home or stay in the colony.
